The Work
The irregular, orb-like sculpture is made of plaster and mixed media, measuring approximately 11″ x 6.5″ x 6″ (28 x 16.5 x 15 cm). Its surface is primarily the soft white of raw plaster, subtly infused with shifting pastel hues of yellow, orange, purple, blue, red, and green. As you run your hands across its delicate form, you’ll encounter a tactile interplay of textures—smooth, glossy areas give way to chalky, rough, and drier sections. Scattered holes and depressions hint at hidden depths, suggesting mysterious elements just beneath the surface.
The Artist
Heather Harvey is an American artist based on the Eastern Shore of Maryland and New York City. Born in Syracuse, New York in 1970, her multidisciplinary practice spans painting, drawing, sculpture, and site-specific installations. Harvey holds an MFA from Virginia Commonwealth University and is an Associate Professor of Art at Washington College in Chestertown, Maryland.
