The Work
This work is a cast of Folar de Páscoa, a traditional Portuguese Easter bread historically prepared by the artist’s grandmother. By translating the ephemeral qualities of food into a static, durable material, the piece engages with themes of cultural transmission, domestic labor, and material memory.
The embedded eggs and tactile surface reference ritual and repetition, while the plaster’s permanence underscores the tension between preservation and loss. Folar de Páscoa da Avó functions as both personal archive and sculptural artifact, bridging the intimate and the collective through form.
