The Work
Materials: Oak burl, feathers, glass eyes and adornment, foam rubber belly with velvet covering, wood buttons, paint rollers, wax encrusted hiking shoes.
I created this work specifically for the “tactile show” hoping the incongruity of the separate body parts would seem chaotic, while the symmetry and feel of the feathers and adornments would give it a sense of order.
Also…I saw it in my mind’s eye, and it came to life. Sometimes that happens.
The Artist
Robert M. Johnson was born and raised in New England and lives on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. While he spent most of his career in technology, he always made art, mostly sculptural. Magnetism, gravity, lasers. illusions and found objects are often involved in the pieces he creates. He strives to make his artwork fun, bring a smile, and be interestingly different.
