The Work

A small figure sits amidst the chaos of a stormy sea. In tumultuous times, one can either dive into it or ride the wave into a more serene sea.
Wave was originally a response to Virginia Woolf’s novel The Waves, wherein the chaos of multiple attitudes and ideas weave together into a unified voice of a moment in time.
Smooth pale blue acrylic waves envelop a small, dark, solitary but solid figure of glass. The sculpture sits on a base of driftwood.

The Artist

Mary Ann Schindler lives in Easton, Maryland, and pursued a career in commercial illustration, art direction and design. She continues to investigate new ideas through experimental workshops and academic studies, and her forms of expression include painting, sculpture, assemblage and installation. She is drawn to combining disparate objects to hopefully illuminate ideas of understanding, empathy, and respect for the other.
